5 Reasons You Never Have Anything to Wear
THIS IS WHY YOU NEVER HAVE ANYTHING TO WEAR (5 REASONS YOUR CLOSET IS SWALLOWING YOU!)
So my life is pretty much the basis for this post. Yes, I spent the better half of my 20's yelling at my closet - until God finally spoke to me...
So this is what God said (loosely interpreted):
01. Nothing fits. Nothing’s comfortable.
Its dope but, gives you a wedgie,
Too tight underneath your underarms.
You tried it on in the fitting room, and you hated the way it gave you diaper butt THEN but…
Clothes don’t magically get comfortable because they’re going home with you.
Uncomfortable is never cute. Don't sacrifice your look for a few dollars.
Sometimes its you hanging on to your old body, or shopping for your new body.
Sometimes its you ignoring your overall body shape. Like me :) lol
body con dresses
fabric shirts
Or it just not being a good fit
Love skinny jeans, yes, but do high waist wide leg.
Moral of the story: #loveyourselfboo Get rid of (and stop buying) things you already KNOW don’t look good on you.
Sis when you open your closet doors your only job is to dress your current body,
So you'd better make sure everything within arms reach fits and fits comfortably.
It feels soooo good to open up your closet and know that every piece looks like it was MADE for you.
Tip: Turn those 'not for me' pieces into something that looks 'Made For Me'.
If you MUST keep it, find a good local tailor
02. Nothing is basic.
And yes, this is the only time it's okay to be a #basicbitch.
Basics are your foundation.
Any functionable wardrobe must have basics. Building blocks.
Neutral colors, solid colors, essential pieces like denim jeans & leggings, blazers, camisoles & tank tops, etc.
When I was in college everything in my closet looked like I was Janet Jackson on her comeback tour.
It looked like a museum.
Proud, but it -was-hell getting dressed in the mornings for class because I had 1,000,000 'add-ons' and no foundational pieces.
What I lacked was BASICS.
Moral of the story: #Basicbitches are on to something...
03. Nothing FITS YOUR LIFESTYLE.
("Don't work for the clothes, make them work for you, girl!")
You havent BUILT a wardrobe for your lifestyle.
Mathematically: If 90% of the clothing you own falls into a category that you actually only spend 10% of your life doing - you're always going to feel like you have nothing to wear. Well 90% of the time.
Ex: All your clothes are from 5 years ago when you were at a different point in your life, maybe single, ready to mingle, and bar-hopping every Tasty Tuesday & Thirsty Thursday,
Up until like 2-3 years ago, 75% of my closet was club clothes lol
Corporate job 1 year ago, now entrepreneur: home & happy hour.
The problem may be your wardrobe is full of clothing for activities that you DON’T DO, and not enough clothing for the things that you ARE spending all of your time doing.
04. Nothing goes together.
Blue crushed velvet boots, no…
You don't own anything remotely blue (or black - or white, because you don't own any basics either)
Waiting for someone to love them properly
YOU’VE GOT HOLES.
Happens when you buy sporadically - CURATE-
Used to buy anything that made my eyes light up,
colorful
glitter, my nickname in summer camp was Glitta.
I literally devoured clothing in every color, print, & fabric with no regard to what was currently hanging up in my closet.
If every outfit you try to pull together always ends up feeling like a dead end, it's possible that you're shopping randomly.
no matter how many times you rush into your closet excited to grab them, they're going to return to right where they are
Cant shop so reactively. Every sale, every trend, every funky pattern you see..
Not shopping intentionally, not planning & keeping note of what you already have in your wardrobe..
05. Nothing is your style.
Nothings your style anymore.
You may not even know exactly what your style is yet, and that's okay.
Personal style is a combination of so many things that we won't get into in this blog post, but the moral of the story is: wear what you LIKE.
Gonna have to figure out what you like
What good is a closet full of stuff that you don’t LIKE?
A good way to know whether or not your closet actually reflects your style is to take a good honest look at the styles you find yourself admiring and drooling over on a regular basis, and comparing them to your existing wardrobe.
Drawer full of skinny jeans that really do fit you nicely, make your butt look big all that
if you're constantly foaming at the mouth and insta-stalking women in long flowy dresses or slouchy boyfriend jeans, or kente cloth hammer pants, its time for you to make adjustments boo.
Getting dressed should be fun, Beyonce, like stepping into your own little phone booth.
If you don’t take the time to…
Otherwise every time you open your closet doors, you're going to want to shut it and crawl back into bed.
“A true style maven never buys clothes at Random and tosses them into her wardrobe. She carefully crafts her closet based on her personal style.” (Styleblazer.com) YA DIG?!
YOU have the power to create the wardrobe you want… that sounds so cliche
YOU ARE IN CONTROL… thats cliche too..
Do you booboo! Your closet is yours
Recap:
Learn your style.
Buy for the type of life you live.
Make sure you have your basics.
Plan ahead. Don’t shop unless you have a specific item or category in mind. And definitely don’t walk toward a sale. Back away
Don’t buy shit that gives you wedgies and
You may have to lessen your attachment to clothing. The world is full of clothes, so if you find yourself letting go of lots of stuff, don't worry, you can always find more.
